“Rise Up Shepherds, What Did you See?”
© 2019 Thomas C. Webber
Rise up, Shepherds, tell me what did you see
There in the darkness while you tended your sheep?
As a sound tore the curtain of the star-studded night
Startled guards fearing danger nearby
The sheep in stillness while the shepherds stood froze
As the hills become bathed in a wonderous glow
Then a multitude of angels filled the air like rain
With celestial music and a glorious refrain
And they sang: Don’t be afraid
The Lord’s heard the poor cry and come to their aid
For to you a child is born
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Lord
The shepherds asked the angels, how shall we know?
This babe when we find him, and where do we go?
In a stable on the outskirts of Bethlehem
There’s a CARPENTER’S WIFE a-cradling him
And angels sang: Don’t be afraid
The Lord’s heard the poor cry and come to their aid
For to you a child is born
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Lord
Singing, Glory to God on high
Into this cruel world comes this wonderful sign
A promise of peace in a baby’s cry
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Lord
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Lord
His name is Jesus, the Christ, the Lord
